STUDY SUMMARY

Diabetes brings a higher risk of cardiovascular disease in women vs. men, but the reasons are not fully clear.

This study aims to understand how women with diabetes experience care for their heart and kidney health.
We want to learn what challenges women face, and how the healthcare system can better support them.

STUDY ACTIVITIES

If you take part, you’ll complete a one-hour confidential interview with a trained member of our research team.
You can choose to meet in person, by phone, or online (Microsoft Teams or WebEx).

During the interview, we’ll ask about:

  • Your experiences with diabetes care

  • How you manage your heart and kidney health

  • Any barriers or supports you’ve encountered

  • Your ideas for improving care for women with diabetes

Your interview will be recorded (with your permission) and later typed up for analysis. Your name and personal information will not appear in any reports.

TIME COMMITMENT

The study involves 1 interview lasting about 60 minutes.
There are no follow-up visits or additional sessions required.
You can take breaks or stop the interview at any time.
You can withdraw your responses at any time before they are included and shared in the final study results.

END GOALS

We hope to identify what makes care easier or harder on women with diabetes and to use this knowledge to design gender-sensitive, patient-centered care programs.
Our goal is to improve heart and kidney health outcomes for women with diabetes and help guide future healthcare practices across Canada.
